Meet Daryl, the founder of Help2Rehome Scotland.
For Daryl, helping animals isn’t simply something he does — it’s something that has been at the heart of his life for the past 21 years.
Over that time, he has worked with animals, supported thousands of owners and helped thousands of pets on their journey to a new home.
He has seen the very best and the very worst that rehoming can bring, and has been there through the happy endings, the difficult decisions and all the moments in between.
But for Daryl it has never been about being in the spotlight.
It has always been about the animals.
Help2Rehome Scotland was founded with a simple but incredibly important belief: when an owner has to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome a pet, they shouldn’t have to feel as though they are simply saying goodbye forever.
Rehoming should be safe, responsible and compassionate — and where possible, owners should be able to know how their beloved pet is getting on, see photographs, hear their stories and have the reassurance that they made the right decision.
That belief is what drives everything Daryl does.
After years of being behind the scenes, it’s now time to introduce the person behind Help2Rehome a little more openly.

Having facilitated countless rehomings, spoken to thousands of owners and experienced every kind of situation imaginable, Daryl understands just how emotional and personal rehoming can be. Sometimes the stories are straightforward. Sometimes they are incredibly difficult. And sometimes there are rehomings that happen quietly, without anyone ever knowing just how much work, care and emotion went into making them happen.
Through it all, the focus remains the same: doing what is right for the animal.
Whether you are an owner looking for help, someone considering rehoming, or simply have a question about how Help2Rehome works, Daryl wants you to know that there is a real person here who will listen.
Approachable, honest and always willing to help, Daryl describes himself as an “open book”.
After 21 years working with animals and thousands of pets helped along the way, there is a huge amount of experience behind Help2Rehome Scotland — but at the heart of it is something much simpler:

Do you have any pets?
Yes, Abbie (cat, 8) and Panda (dog, 13).
What was your first pet and what where they called?
My first pet was a dog called Snoopy!
If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
I would be a dog because they sleep wherever they want!
How long have you been with Help2Rehome and how did you get involved?
I have been with H2RS now for over a year, I adopted Panda nearly 2 years ago from here and I decided I would like to help as a home checker in my area.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
A typical day as a home checker is getting in touch with potential new owners, arranging a time and date for me to visit, asking questions, writing down answers and taking photos. When I get home I then forward the report over to the rehome team.

What message would you like to share with anyone considering adopting a pet from Help2Rehome?
If you can give a dog or a cat a loving home then please don't hesitate to get in touch! It was the best decision I ever made.
What animal has the biggest impact on your life?
Dogs. I've had dogs all my life and couldn't imagine not having one . Panda helps me with my anxiety.
If I could change one thing it would be tougher laws for animal cruelty and for all the stray dogs and cats to come live with me lol .
Anything else you’d like to add?
In my spare time I also volunteer at a community cafe and I also mentor at a high school.
I love spending time with my kids going to the football (season ticket holders for Dundee United ) , cinema and out for tea.
Going out with friends and also spending time with my furbabies at home .

Do you have any pets?
I don't have any pets of my own, but I am auntie to a lovely Dachshund called Angus.
How long have you been with Help2Rehome and how did you get involved?
I got involved as helpline support in April 2026 and, no two days are the same.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
Talking! We take calls from lots of different people who are looking for help and advice with their pets.

Tea and wine - Not together of course!
What message would you like to share with anyone considering adopting a pet from Help2Rehome?
I would always advise to read through the information on our appeals and website, it explains what we are about and the service we provide to pet owners.
What animal has the biggest impact on your life?
Dogs have the biggest impact on my life, especially Angus! He's a character, I thoroughly enjoy walks with Angus and my dad when my sister is at work.
If you could change anything for animal welfare or to make things better for animals, what would it be?
I would make every human realise they need to treat animals how we all want to be treated in life.

Do you have any pets?
I do, I have a (nearly 3 year old) Fox Red Labrador called Chester and he honestly is my best friend in the whole world!
What was your first pet and what where they called?
My first pet was a dog (collie cross with a corgi) called Brandy.
If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
I’d be a Gorilla! So strong, intelligent and independent in the wild.
How long have you been with Help2Rehome and how did you get involved?
I’ve been involved for a few months now, I found help2rehome on Facebook, they were in need of a volunteer to carry out home checks in my area and I jumped at the chance.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
My role as home checker is to attend potential owners homes, get to know them and see if they are suitable to adopt one of the many loving pets that we rehome.
Tea or coffee?
Definitely Coffee, but only 1 a day!
What message would you like to share with anyone considering adopting a pet from Help2Rehome?
If you are looking to rehome a pet, just think carefully if you can give your new (child, furry one) the time, care and love that they deserve. They will become a child you never had and only want to be loved unconditionally.
What animal has the biggest impact on your life?
My Labrador, my boy, Chester. I underwent a huge operation last year where I had Cancer and I honestly couldn’t have got through it without the love that he gave me. He truly is my best friend!
If you could change anything for animal welfare or to make things better for animals, what would it be?
I would give bigger sentences for animal Cruelty, it’s so heart-breaking to see poor defenceless animals being treated badly. All animals / pets have souls and they look to us for protection and love.
